• Course number and title:URD212Y5Y Introduction to Urdu Course description: This course is for students who have no background knowledge in Urdu.
• The course provides students with basic information about the Urdu language paying particular attention to literacy skills, i.e. reading and writing in Urdu.
• Students start by learning how to write and pronounce the alphabet and how to connect letters to form new words.
• Then, they learn basic vocabulary in Urdu in order to express basic ideas orally and in writing.
• By the end of the course, students should be able to write simple sentences to express basic information, and they should be able to conduct basic conversations in Urdu.
• Estimated course enrolment: 40 Estimated TA support: None.

Sessional Lecturer I - $19,994.95 inclusive of vacation pay Sessional Lecturer I Long Term - $21,398.43 inclusive of vacation pay Sessional Lecturer II - $21,398.43 inclusive of vacation pay Sessional Lecturer II Long Term - $21,907.92 inclusive of vacation pay Sessional Lecturer III - $21,907.92 inclusive of vacation pay Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $22,457.80 inclusive of vacation pay Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must hold a graduate-level degree in Urdu language pedagogy, literature, linguistics, or a related field. Demonstrated experience teaching university-level Urdu language courses is required. Native, or near-native, Urdu language fluency is required.

Preferred qualifications

Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course, or a similar course at the university level, is preferred. Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.

Description of duties

All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; out-of-class interactions with students via e-mail and office hours; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; order all necessary readings.
