Overview
Provide guidance, instructional support, direction, and intervention strategies for students at risk or experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, mental, and/or developmental difficulties. Provide social-emotional supports to students, student groups, and families. Design, implement, and monitor intensive, flexible individual interventions for at-risk students and their families with the school-based or district-based team. Recognize characteristics of at-risk students and intervene in crisis situations, developing strategies in consultation with the school-based team and/or district counsellor. Support families with assessment, guidance, crisis intervention, and parenting skills and implement required strategies. Establish and maintain communication and liaison with outside agencies (e.g., Ministry of Children and Family Development, Probation and Police Services, Youth Mental Health) as directed. Participate as a member of school and district Critical Incidence Teams as requested. Develop, coordinate, and supervise program activities as requested (e.g., group support, academics, recreation, field trips, work experience, special projects). Assist in delivery of educational goals and objectives (e.g., IEPs, academics, recreation, field trips, work experience, home visits). Implement specialized student-specific programs for homebound students as outlined and supervised by teaching staff. Coordinate or assist with a school meals program. Drive students as required. Submit verbal and written reports as required. Support fundraising including researching and writing grant applications. Assist with general supervision of students in school and school-related activities. Provide support/programming beyond school day hours when required. Perform other job-related duties
