  • Experience and training in balanced literacy approaches and literacy assessment (K-12) is required.

Job description

  • <p><strong> </strong></p> <p><strong>Position Description</strong></p> <p>A temporary full time (1.0) District ELL Support Teacher is required by School District No.
  • 60 (Peace River North)<b><u> effective September 8, 2026 to October 2, 2026.</u></b> The assignment will be at Learning Services and would include working with ELL students at designated schools on a regularly scheduled basis based on district needs, both with in town and rural schools.
  • This position will be dependent on ELL enrollment.</p> <p>The ELL Specialist Support Teacher provides language assessment services that align with the Ministry of Education & Childcare ELL Policy and district practices, review planning and development of programming as well as reporting on ELL student progress. </p> <p>The successful applicant would support school-based ELL teachers and classroom teachers with the design and implementation of the student's language acquisition plan.
  • Working in schools with teachers, students and school based teams, planning and delivery of workshops and inservices are part of this role. </p> <p>Providing direct ELL support in assigned schools and delivery of the school-based ELL program to students will include direct teaching of students, co-teaching and collaboration with classroom teachers.</p><p><b><i>**Please note that this position involves travel to rural schools**</i></b></p> <p><strong> Our philosophy is consistent with our District’s mission statement, <strong>“Together, We Learn” </strong>and with that of the Ministry of Education and the Special Education Programs Branch.

  • See <a></a> for more information. </strong></p><p><strong>Qualifications and Experience</strong></p><ul> <li>Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)</li> <li>Experience working with students with complex needs</li> <li>Level B assessment certification, or willing to obtain</li> <li>Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills</li> <li>Computer literate and able to use a variety of applications for classroom instruction and required tasks</li> <li>Ability to participate in meetings, workshops and inservices within and beyond the regular school day to support student learning and/or teaching development</li> <li>Ability to travel to all schools in the district; reliable vehicle to drive in winter conditions</li> <li>Commitment to working with colleagues on staff development activities linked to the District FESL</li> <li>Committed to individualized and group instruction utilizing a variety of effective strategies and techniques</li> <li>Experience in leadership roles at the school level & experience working with adult learners is preferred</li> <li>Training in ELL methodology and appropriate approaches to teaching ELL or additional language acquisition coursework/experience as laid out in the BC Ministry of Education & Childcare Policy guidelines</li> <li>Cross-cultural communication, strategies, understanding and sensitivity training would be an asset</li> <li>Strong understanding of curriculum and supporting second language learners</li> <li>Ability to work as part of a team to develop, implement and support on-site ELL teacher with AIP development, implementation and assessment</li> <li>Ability to plan, organize, and deliver in service sessions for ELL district teachers that build capacity development in ELL in conjunction with curriculum team members</li> <li>Ability to attend meetings & host inservices outside the regular school day</li><li>Experience and training in balanced literacy approaches, literacy assessment and literacy across learning areas K-12</li> </ul> <p> </p> <p><strong>Interested applicants are required to supply</strong></p> <ul> <li> <p><strong> </strong>Three (3) references</p> </li> <li> <p> Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate) </p> </li> </ul> <p> </p> <p> <strong>Compensation</strong></p> <ul> <li> <p>$2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas.</p> </li> <li> <p>$3,500 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)</p> </li> </ul> <ul> <li> <p>Salary as per collective agreement.
