Part-Time Academic (KINE 1108: Psychology and Physical Activity) - Winter 2027 Posting Number PTAP3330P Department/Unit Health & Human Performance Location Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Job Summary & Key Responsibilities The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching: KINE 1108: Psychology and Physical Activity. The course will be offered in the winter term, from January 1st, 2027- April 30th, 2027. NOTE: This is an in-person course and in lecture format with 1.5 hours of labs per week. Physical inactivity is widely recognized as a lifestyle associated with considerable health risk. The challenge of increasing the level of physical activity in the population requires an in-depth understanding of the individual and environmental factors that either promote or inhibit regular activity. Accordingly, this introductory course will provide students with the fundamental knowledge of how psychological concepts are related to physical activity participation and health. The main focus is to provide (a) a basic understanding of various social-psychological concepts and principles involved in health and exercise psychology, and (b) to see how these concepts and principles might be translated into promoting health and wellness via physical activity participation. Core concepts include the basics of psychology research, theories, motivation, adherence, and behaviour modification. The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including preparing and delivering lectures and preparation and grading of assignments. They will also be responsible for support for the labs. Teaching assistants will help with delivering lab content. The course will be taught using Brightspace (LMS- learning management system) and in-person on the Halifax Campus for the winter term . In addition, the part-time academic should expect to be engaged in course preparation in advance of the term. The part-time academic may consider offering one to two office hours outside of class time per week. Qualifications/Requirements of Position Graduate degree in Kinesiology, Health Promotion or Recreation and Leisure Studies with demonstrated teaching ability preferred. Salary Range/Pay Rate Per CUPE Collective Agreement
