Part-Time Academic (SLWK 4034/4035: Field Practicum and Seminar) - Fall/Winter 2026-27 Posting Number PTAP3342P Department/Unit Social Work Location Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Job Summary & Key Responsibilities The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching SLWK 4034/4035 Sec 02, “Field Practicum & Seminar”. The course will be offered in the Fall/Winter terms, from September 2026 to April 2027. Seminars will be held Mondays from 17:35-19:25. This is a camps course and part of the BSW program. Course description: This course includes a 700 hour agency based practice placement, integrated seminars and the opportunity to develop a broad range of practice knowledge and skills sufficient to meet the requirements of an entry level professional position. The part-time academic position is responsible for guiding a series of seminars, liaising with student field placement agencies for a series of meetings, dealing with any issues that arise within the field placement, overseeing the completion of an academic presentation, and conferring on final grades. The part-time academic should expect to be engaged in course preparations preceding course delivery. Qualifications/Requirements of Position Educational background with extensive experience in social work (or related fields) is required. Solid knowledge of a variety of social work skills and the ability to impart these skills to students. A Master of Social Work degree (or higher) and previous teaching experience. Salary Range/Pay Rate Per CUPE Collective Agreement; Note: BSW field courses are paid as a 6 credit-hour equivalent
