Part-Time Academic (SLWK 3220: Cross Cultural Issues and Social Work Practice) - Winter 2027 Posting Number PTAP3335P Department/Unit Social Work Location Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Job Summary & Key Responsibilities The part-time academic will be responsible for teaching: SLWK 3220, Section 01 “Cross-Cultural Issues and Social Work Practice”. The course will be offered in the Winter Term, on campus, in the Winter term from January to April 2027. Classes will be held Tuesdays from 14:35-17:25. Course description: This course provides an opportunity to critically examine theoretical frameworks for viewing marginalized racial, ethnic and cultural groups in society, to examine personal values as they relate to the above groups, to develop skills in working effectively with these groups, and to understand related social policies. The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including preparing and delivering lectures, grading of assignments, and consultation with students. In addition, the part-time academic should expect to be engaged in course preparations for one-two months preceding course delivery. Qualifications/Requirements of Position Critical awareness of cultural diversity as it pertains to race, class, gender identity and sexual orientation, ability, age. A knowledge base of diverse and inclusive cultural practices across the margins. A Master of Social Work degree, or higher, and previous teaching experience, preferably with online teaching. Salary Range/Pay Rate Per CUPE Collective Agreement
