Part-Time Academic (PHYT 6107: Neurological Physiotherapy Practice) - Fall 2026 Posting Number PTAP3321P Department/Unit Physiotherapy Location Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Job Summary & Key Responsibilities PHYT 6107 Neurological Physiotherapy Practice [Fall term, September 8 – December 20, 2026, inclusive of exam period. [Multiple Positions Available] Course Description: This academic module gives students the opportunity to acquire knowledge and develop the competencies and professional behaviors in preparation for physiotherapy practice for individuals with neurologic disorders. Neurophysiological concepts and neurotherapeutic approaches to assessment and management of conditions across the lifespan and across the continuum of care are introduced in an integrated manner. Students are required to draw on their knowledge of anatomy, neuroanatomy, physiology, exercise physiology, and therapeutic exercise as they explore topics in neurological physiotherapy. Emphasis is placed on understanding theoretical principles and developing assessment and treatment skills through critical analysis of case studies, laboratory practice, clinical visits, and self-directed learning. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and the Clinical Reasoning Model serve as theoretical frameworks to prepare students for effective practice. Work Assignment: Labs occur weekly, on Tuesday and Friday mornings between 8:30am – 12:30pm.] The laboratory demonstrator will assist the course faculty by teaching physical assessment, documentation, and/or practical treatment skills and techniques in the laboratory component of this course for Year 2 MScPT students. The laboratory demonstrator will also be asked to act as an examiner for mid-term and final practical exams and to evaluate the students’ performance throughout the course. Preparation in advance for each lab and to be knowledgeable about the content, will be required. The laboratory demonstrator will contribute to preparation and evaluation of interprofessional health education assignments . Some additional hours may be required for limited meeting time with the course faculty. Lab demonstrators will promote a professional environment for safe and effective student learning. The lab demonstrator may be required to assist in conflict-resolution in the event that interpersonal conflict is interfering with student(s) meeting the lab objectives. Qualifications/Requirements of Position Candidates must be licensed Physiotherapists. A strong clinical expertise and experience in neurotherapeutics is required. Candidates should be available for both the Tuesday and Friday labs each week and must state their availability in their cover letter.
