Part-Time Academic (HIST 3600.03 Topics in the History of Law and Justice: Social Justice in the United States – Fall 2026) Posting Number PTAP3357P Department/Unit History Location Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Job Summary & Key Responsibilities A part-time academic is required to teach HIST 3600.03 Topics in the History of Law and Justice: Social Justice in the United States in the Fall 2026 Term (1 September to 31 December, 2026). This course explores organized resistance to state-sanctioned oppression and marginalization throughout the twentieth century in the United States. We will study the history and historiography of this topic from an intersectional perspective – most of the topics of the course concern communities of colour, women, and queer and trans people, and the authors that we will read are often a member of those communities themselves. The classes are currently scheduled on Mondays from 1735-2025. The part-time academic is responsible for all aspects of teaching, grading and administration of the classes. In addition, the part-time academic is to be available for two hours per week outside of class time for student consultation. The part-time academic reports to the Chair of the History Department. Qualifications/Requirements of Position Candidates must possess a PhD in History or a related field. Additional experience teaching in the subject area will be reviewed favourably. All offers of employment as a part-time academic are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the course and approval by the University. Salary Range/Pay Rate Per CUPE Collective Agreement
