Job description

  • <div> <p>Lach Klan School</p><p>Grade 8/9 High School Teacher (Secondary 1.0)</p> <p> </p> <p>Lach Klan School is located in the village of Lax Klan, also known as Kitkatla, on Dolphin Island, 60 kilometers south of Prince Rupert, BC.
  • The Gitxaała , also known as Git Lax M'oon, people of the saltwater, are one of the most ancient societies on the Northwest coast.
  • The community has a population of approximately 400 people.
  • Health and wellness guide a variety of community initiatives, often including Lach Klan School.
  • Our school includes pre-school to grade 12 and currently serves 75 students.
  • The area is home to a wide variety of animal and sea life, a multitude of islands, and breath-taking views accessible by boat and seaplane.
  • This area is abundant with opportunity for an outdoor enthusiast.</p></div><div><p>Lach Klan School is seeking a dynamic and skilled grade 8/9 teacher who is committed to cultivating a culture of success for all students.
  • The successful candidate will be working and playing in the traditional territory of Gitxaała Nation with the opportunity to engage with local culture and traditions and participate in community events.
  • You will bring recent and successful classroom experience teaching at the high school level.
  • This position requires a deep commitment to indigenization, a competency-based curriculum, and innovative approaches that support multi-grade learners.
  • Your classroom management creates a safe, positive, and respectful learning climate for all students.</p></div><div><p>You use strength-based, student-centered approaches to plan engaging and educational lessons based on BC Ministry of Education standards.
  • You will have demonstrated ability to accommodate the needs of students with a range learning styles and abilities, able to inspire and foster a sense of belonging for all learners.
  • You will have the ability to cultivate regular, meaningful dialogue between school and home to support parental engagement in the learning process and will maintain confidentiality of students and other professional information.</p></div><div><p>This position could be a great fit for you if you want to make a difference, enjoy the cycle of learning and continual improvement, and want to join a collaborative team.
  • The beauty of collaboration is that we all share in the successes and work together to overcome or address issues with strength-based approaches. </p></div><div><p><br></br></p></div><p><strong>Desired Qualifications:</strong></p><ul><ul><li>Hold or be qualified for a valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate</li><li>Bachelor of Education (Secondary) or relevant degree in subject areas</li><li>A proven ability to assess using multiple learning strategies</li><li>Knowledge of Aboriginal World View and successful experience integrating local Indigenous culture into the curriculum</li><li>Knowledge and/or experience in the areas of outcomes-based instruction, assessment for learning, differentiated instruction and inclusive education</li><li>Experience integrating technology into the teaching/learning environment</li><li>Willingness to work and implement school initiatives and goals</li><li>The ability to adjust to living in a small, isolated community</li><li>Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the school improvement plan</li><li>Exceptional and creative teaching skills</li><li>The ability to establish and maintain positive relations with students, staff, parents and the greater community.</li></ul></ul><div><p><br></br></p></div><p><strong>We provide:</strong></p><div><p><br></br></p></div><p>· Furnished teacherage at a nominal rental rate</p><div><p>· Health benefits, pension fund, moving allowance and a retention incentive</p></div><div><p>· A competitive salary, in line with neighboring school districts</p></div><div><p><br></br></p></div><p>All employees must complete the appropriate clear criminal record check to work at the school.
