Part-Time Academic (INDG/CANA 2050/HIST 2205.03: Historical Issues in Indigenous Studies) - Fall 2026 Posting Number PTAP3384P Department/Unit Multidisciplinary Centre Location Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Job Summary & Key Responsibilities The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for Academic INDG/CANA 2050/HIST 2205.03: Historical Issues in Indigenous Studies, an online synchronous class to be held on Tuesday/Thursday, 1435-1555 (Fall Term 2026/2027) online (synchronous). The Part-Time Academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the course, including preparing and delivering lectures, marking student assignments, development of course content on Brightspace, and submitting grades. In addition to course time, the instructor is required to hold two office hours per week for consultation with students. The instructor reports to the Indigenous Studies program Coordinator. Course description: This course is an interdisciplinary introduction to the history of encounters and relationships between Indigenous peoples and European settlers in Canada. Topics may include treaties, colonial policy, residential schools, child welfare, resettlement, and the Indian Act. This course provides the necessary background to understand contemporary Indigenous issues. Qualifications/Requirements of Position As this course centers Indigenous history and knowledge, candidates who self-identify as Indigenous peoples are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates must demonstrate expertise in Indigenous knowledge systems relevant to the course, which may include lived experience, community-based knowledge, and/or scholarly work grounded in Indigenous perspectives. Applicants should possess or be working towards a PhD in History or related field. Research experience in Indigenous studies is preferred.
