Part-Time Academic (ARBC 1021.03: Introduction to Arabic I, Section 1) - Fall 2026 Posting Number PTAP3377P Department/Unit Spanish & Latin American Studies Location Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Job Summary & Key Responsibilities A part-time academic is required to teach ARBC 1021.03: Introduction to Arabic I (Section 1) – Fall Term 2026 (September 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026). Currently Scheduled: TR 1135-1255. ARBC1021 is an introductory Arabic language (Modern Standard Arabic – MSA) class meant for absolute beginners. In this class students will learn to write with Arabic characters, to read simple original texts in Arabic, and to use the basic components of Arabic grammar and basic daily vocabulary. The instructor will prepare the students for the second half of the introductory class offered in the Winter. The textbook used for this class is “Mastering Arabic I” (by Jane Wightwick and Mahmoud Gaafar, 2015 edition). The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including admission, lectures, test preparation, evaluation, and electronic submission of grades. Instructors are expected to maintain reliable and constant communication with the administration of the Department, to be available for two hours per week for consultation with students, and to have students fill out the evaluation questionnaire at the end of the course. This position reports to the Chairperson of the department. Qualifications/Requirements of Position Applicants should have native or near-native fluency in English and Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and possess a graduate degree or other academic and/or professional qualifications deemed suitable for teaching the class. Candidates should demonstrate strong teaching skills, including communicative and student-centered language teaching approaches, grammar instruction, commitment to student learning, and a strong sense of personal responsibility. Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level will be an asset. Salary Range/Pay Rate Per CUPE Collective Agreement
