Position Summary
SW 460 – Ethics in Social Work This course is designed to sensitize students to the central role of ethics in contemporary social work. Theoretical foundations in social work ethics and the relationship between diverse value systems in Canadian society will be critically analyzed. Emphasis is on various ethical dilemmas and ethical issues facing social workers. The semester class period is from September 1, 2026 to December 22, 2026 and the final exam period is from Dec. 9 – 22, 2026. Sessional Lecturers that are teaching remote classes are expected to teach 13 synchronous classes throughout the semester on zoom. Expectations for Sessional Lecturers include, but aren’t limited to, the following: Preparing the course outline, designing relevant assignments, evaluating and grading student work, and submitting student grades by the required deadline. Teaching course content that follows the course description, established learning objectives, and university academic guidelines. Delivering 13 lectures throughout the semester. Encouraging and maintaining a safe and collaborative classroom environment. Providing regular support to students on course work during office hours, and as required by students. Consulting with the Associate Dean (Undergraduate Programs) on academic or student- related matters as needed. Other duties as assigned. Salary Range
As per URFA Collective Agreement Status Term Work Hours This course is offered on Wednesday’s 11:30 a.m. – 2:15 p.m. The Sessional Lecturer is expected to teach remote via zoom (synchronous) for each of the 13 lectures, be in the zoom 10-15 minutes before each class starts, as well as offer regular office hours for their students each week.
