Job Description

  • Child and Youth Worker Student Create and deliver quality programs and activities for children utilizing trauma-informed perspective
  • Plan and implement age-based activities
  • Provide theme based activities throughout the summer around literacy, STEM, emotional regulation, and mental health wellness
  • Role model health behaviour and attitude and support growth and promoting positive behaviours
  • Read daily communication log and case notes as part of a interdisciplinary team effort to coordinate the progress of clients
  • Record in client files pertinent information concerning children's programming
  • Represent the Centre at community groups, public speaking engagements, and other areas as requested
  • Create a program calendar to inform the children and youth of activities
  • Attend staff and case management meetings
  • Assist with special events
  • Assist with effective risk management
  • Interact with parent in supportive, non-judgemental manner
  • Network with other community agencies for the benefit of the child and youth programming
  • Work with volunteer's during children's programs and outings
  • Actively involved in ongoing professional development
  • Complete stats for child and youth groups and programs
  • Read and adhere to Centre Employee Handbook and Policy and Procedure Manuel
  • Adhere to formal Evaluation Sessions with Supervisor
  • Agree to and sign Confidentiality statement
  • Adhere to Centres Health and Safety regulations
  • Make suggestions hat will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to Management
  • Represent the organization in a professional manner and attitude EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures. Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered. Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
  • Completed Grade 9. Experience and Knowledge: Experience in extracurricular activities and/or volunteer work is considered an asset. Skills and Capabilities:
  • Clearance through internal Salvation Army child & youth abuse prevention protocols.
  • Work within the total camp program and cooperate with other staff members.
  • Flexible and have a good disposition.
  • Able to maintain a responsible level of maturity and leadership.
  • Able to lift, carry or move up to 29 lbs.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $21.03 with a maximum of $25.23. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
