Job Description

  • Camp Leader (Canada Summer Jobs) POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: The Summer Program Leader is a temporary, full-time position for 35 hours/week. This position will be delivering engaging activities for children (aged 6-12) to help keep them happy and healthy throughout the camp days. Applicants must be available for full-time work for the period of June 24th to August 28th, 2026. This a Fixed Term Contract Position. Applicants must meet program eligibility requirements, including age and legal status criteria. ACCOUNTABILITIES: The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar duties, as listed below: Promotes, facilitates, and evaluates developmentally appropriate programs for participants that provide opportunities for physical, cognitive, emotional, and social skill development
  • Co-creates and maintains a strengths-based, inclusive, respectful, engaging, child-centred program.
  • Establishes trusting relationships with participants and families.
  • Room set-up and teaching food preparation skills.
  • Completes administrative tasks such as attendance, report writing, and file maintenance
  • Provides one-on-one support as needed
  • Monitors progress and needs of children in consultation with supervisor.
  • Assist with any type of emergencies that may arise during the shift. Monitor level of program supplies; requesting re-order/purchase as needed Participate in staff debriefing meetings Perform other duties as required CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT Internal: Program Coordinator, MU lead, Coworkers, Volunteers External: Parents, Children MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Reports directly to the Corps Officers
  • This position has no direct reports. FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:
  • NONE WORKING CONDITIONS: Noise Potential of verbal abuse Work-related stress EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS: The successful job applicant will need to be between 15-30 years old and eligible to work in Canada, as the job is contingent upon Canada Summer Jobs program funding ECE / ECEA Certification Preferred. Food Safe Certification Completion of high school diploma. First Aid certificate or willingness to obtain. Responsible Adult Certification Preferred. Completion of TSA online Presidium Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training. Able to provide Criminal Background Check screening and Vulnerable Sector Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. Experience and Knowledge:
  • Experience working with children, knowledge of child development and ways to engage learners in various activities and environments. Experience leading children through Vacation Bible School material Ensure that the gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of job responsibilities (craft, story time) Skills and Capabilities: Teamwork- the skills needed to interact with other people, work with others in pairs and small and large groups to coordinate tasks, share resources, plan, make decisions, negotiate, solve conflicts, and complete other activities that involve teamwork. Adaptability- the ability to adjust goals and behaviors when unexpected changes occur by planning, staying focused, persisting, and overcoming setbacks. Collaboration - contributing and supporting others to achieve a common goal. Creativity and Innovation - imagining, developing, encouraging, and applying ideas that challenge existing methods and norms. Problem-solving
  • the ability to identify, analyze, propose solutions, and make decisions to address issues, monitor success, and learn from experience. Communication-the skills needed to exchange thoughts and information with other people orally by speaking, listening, and using nonverbal cues, such as body language or in writing. Leadership - the skills needed for communication, relationship building, and delegating. Traits such as honesty, demonstrating initiative, and taking responsibility for completing tasks are developing. Character-setting a good example for the campers with traits such as honesty, initiative, using time wisely, and taking responsibility for completing tasks. Self-motivated/disciplined Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills and respect authority. Participate in mandatory orientation training, on-going professional development and training. Comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $18.50 to $23.13 with a maximum of $27.76. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
