Job Description

  • POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: This position will provide a meaningful activity filled program for Kids ages 7-12 where Kids can be productive is a positive and thriving environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in implementing youth activities (Kids Club Program)
  • Assist with planning and prepping of activities
  • Play a positive role model among participants
  • Assist set-up and clean-up of activities
  • Assist in registration and recruitment of participants
  • Lead small group activities
  • Knows and acts in accordance with all safety procedures
  • to ensure the safety and confidentiality of participants and information
  • Participate in staff meetings and in-service training as required
  • Assist in Family Foundations program if needed
  • Give oversight and supervision of children
  • Encourage the healthy participation of each camper in the program
  • Maintain, adhere and administer program rules/policies at all times
  • May assist with planning and participating in community-drop in events
  • To ensure the cleanliness of the program facilities
  • Conduct oneself with a high degree of respect and confidentiality
  • Report concerns promptly to Director of Family Life Services.
  • Ensure proper lifting, twisting and reaching techniques are used during job performance.
  • Use PPE provided when necessary WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • The incumbent’s typical work environment is a community-based facility with significant amounts of work accompanying children in the community.
  • Moderate exposure to hazards: domestic cleaning supplies; handling of waste (garbage), bodily fluids/wastes, sharp objects, dirt/dust/odor, hot equipment (ovens, stoves, etc.).
  • Minor to moderate exposure to hazards: physical attack from participant.
  • Minor exposure to hazards: infectious diseases, toxic chemicals, scabies, lice and/or bed bugs, emergency response situations (fire, bomb threat, etc.) and other potentially dangerous situations The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School or University Student (between 16 and 29 years of age)
  • Highly motivated team player with strong leadership potential
  • Special interests in recreational activities, creative art, and storytelling
  • Certified Winnipeg Police or RCMP Criminal record check including Vulnerable Sector completed
  • Province of Manitoba Child Abuse Registry check & Province of Manitoba Adult Abuse Registry check
  • Suitable candidates may be hired without previous experience; however, prior related experience will be considered an asset on hiring. CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT: Internal: Camp Leadership, Camp Team External: Summer campers MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Reports directly to the Director of Family Life. Direct reports: none. FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
  • Assist with receiving and stocking of program supplies
  • Assist with collection of Registration Forms and Program Fees
  • Use of various cleaning chemicals and tools (ex: broom, mop, vacuum, etc.).
  • Possible use of kitchen tools and appliances (ex: knives, stove/oven, dishwasher, etc.) The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct. WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Occasional to moderate amount of keyboarding/manual record keeping
  • Occasional to moderate amounts of physical care (including manual or assisted transfers)
  • Moderate lifting/packing of member belongings or program supplies
  • Frequent standing, sitting, walking, & reaching
  • Moderate amount of light housekeeping and property maintenance
  • Occasional use of physical behaviour intervention techniques
  • Attentive listening & observation of body language
  • Continuously monitoring the environment
  • Basic reading, writing, arithmetic, and computer skills

  • Ability to understand child’s needs

  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $16.00 to $18.08 with a maximum of $21.69. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
