Part-Time Academic (HIST 2272.03 Canada since Confederation: Regionalism, Identity, and Development, 1867-2000 - Winter 2027) Posting Number PTAP3364P Department/Unit History Location Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Job Summary & Key Responsibilities A part-time academic is required to teach HIST 2272.03 Canada since Confederation: Regionalism, Identity, and Development, 1867-2000 in the Winter 2027 Term (1 January to 31 May, 2027). The classes are currently scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:30-13:00. A survey of the history of Atlantic Canada (the Maritimes and Newfoundland) from the 1860s to the present. Emphasis is placed on how episodes such as the “age of sail”, industrialization, class and gender conflict, war, the struggle for human rights and a chronic effort to play “catch-up” with the rest of the nation have defined this region’s identity. The part-time academic is responsible for all aspects of teaching, grading and administration of the classes. In addition, the part-time academic is to be available for two hours per week outside of class time for student consultation. The part-time academic reports to the Chair of the History Department. Qualifications/Requirements of Position Candidates must possess a PhD in History or a related field. Additional experience teaching in the subject area will be reviewed favourably. All offers of employment as a part-time academic are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the course and approval by the University. Salary Range/Pay Rate
