The primary function is to act as a guide, role model, and advisor, facilitating debriefings and sharing practical, day-To-Day applied knowledge with other nurses, primarily by providing rapid, just-In-Time clinical mentorship on the unit or department. The clinical mentor also works with nurse educators to provide ongoing guidance, supports nurses through mentoring to ensure high-Quality care, and facilitates smooth transitions into new practice areas or work environments.
Candidates must have a minimum of three years of recent applicable clinical nursing experience specific to the unit, or five years for specialty areas, and must be a graduate from an approved registered nursing or psychiatric nursing program. Required qualifications include maintaining active registration with the relevant provincial nursing college, demonstrated clinical competence, excellent interpersonal communication skills, and proficiency with computer systems.
