What You Offer
Ideally, you have extensive experience working with children, youth and young adults or vulnerable individuals in a health care setting, school, or home setting. You have experience and are confident in supporting individuals who may exhibit behaviours that limit their ability to access or participate in community. You have experience and are confident in providing personal care and medical care needs. The Position
- This is a full-time seasonal role based in the Edmonton area, supporting Hearts in Action Summer Camps at various temporary locations.
- The position focuses on delivering engaging, meaningful programming that fosters genuine relationships and a strong sense of belonging among participants.
- The program runs Monday through Friday, from June 29, 2026 to August 21, 2026.
- The standard workweek consists of 40 hours.
- You may be required to work additional hours before or after the program day depending on business needs.
- Core hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- The Community Specialist II (CS II) will be reporting to the assigned Program Supervisor.
- The CS II is a highly experienced direct support role, typically relating to more complex and specialized situations, behaviours, or environments.
- They work front-line and are pivotal to the creation of a safe, caring, and community-enriched life for the individuals and families who hire us.
- Thoughtful programming planning and implementation support participants to connect with their communities – establishing real relationships and creating meaningful days and lives.

- Provide direct care and purposeful support with individuals identified as exhibiting behaviours that may limit access to community in an engaging, fun, and safe environment 2.
- Implement person-centered and behaviour plans designed to support and assist participants 3.
- Facilitate inclusion for individuals with complex and/or specialized situations 4.
- Deliver and adapt programs and services in an engaging and meaningful manner that imparts growth, success, and belonging 5.
- Foster genuine relationships promoting dignity, personal interests and identities 6.
- Empower individuals to create meaningful days and achieve their goals 7.
- Communicate effectively with integrity to individuals, families, and co-workers 8.
- Assist, support, and encourage individuals to advocate on their own behalf and achieve their personal goals through various development activities 9.
- Maintain timely, accurate and professional documents in accordance with AdaptAbilities policies and procedures 10.
- Perform other job-related activities as required
Qualifications
- 1.
- Minimum education requirement of a High School Diploma and a minimum of 2-3 years of related experience; or graduation from an appropriate post-secondary program with a Certificate or Diploma.
- Programs include Disability Studies, Human Services, Social Work, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Sociology, or Education or Education Assistant 2.
- Hands-on experience working with individuals with complex behaviors which limit their inclusion in community and/or programs 3.
- Alignment with AdaptAbilities core purpose and core values 4.
- Clear Police Information Check and Intervention Record Check are required upon hire 5.
- Intermediate First Aid Certification CPR Level C and AED is required upon hire 6.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Medication Administration Certification, Abuse Prevention and Response Protocol are an asset
Funding for Summer Positions
AdaptAbilities utilizes Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Grant for various temporary summer positions. CSJ is a program under the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS), which aims to provide flexible and holistic services to help youth in Canada develop the skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition into the labour market. The program provides wage subsidies to employers to create quality summer work experiences for young people aged 15 to 30 years. Youth must be eligible to work in Canada as a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.

These are not requirements to be considered for the role but to determine grant eligibility.
Compensation $22.86 to $24.62/ hour depending on experience and education
