The specialist intervenor acts as a communicator and sighted guide for individuals with combined hearing and sight loss, facilitating their interaction with the environment. Key duties include providing one-On-One support, facilitating access to information, and empowering individuals to participate actively in community life.
Candidates must possess knowledge of intervention theories and deafblindness, along with strong communication and interpersonal skills, flexibility, and the ability to work independently. A diploma or degree in human services is preferred, and a willingness to learn alternate communication formats like asl and braille is required.
