About Vancouver Talmud Torah

Vancouver Talmud Torah (VTT) is an Early Childhood to Grade 7 Jewish community day school dedicated to fostering Jewish identity and literacy through a strong emphasis on Jewish values. Rigor, excellence, innovation, and creativity are integral to the learning experience at VTT. We serve families from a diverse range of Jewish backgrounds and religious practices, and as Western Canada’s largest Jewish community day school, we bring over 100 years of experience to everything we do. Our beautiful campus in the heart of Vancouver offers an inspiring setting for students and staff alike.

Qualifications

Current BC Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB) certification. Bachelor’s degree in Education. Formal training and demonstrated experience in special education. Special Education certification is an asset. Excellent understanding of the BC Ministry of Education K–7 program of study. Skill in differentiating instruction and fostering a collaborative, creative environment with faculty and staff. Proficiency in using and teaching assistive technologies. Strong familiarity with Psycho-Educational Assessments and Level B assessment instruments. Commitment to using data and metrics to improve student learning outcomes. Excellent communication, organizational, and creative problem-solving skills. Commitment to excellence in teaching, collaboration, and ongoing professional growth. Support for the mission, vision, and values of VTT.

  • Primary Responsibilities Develop and update IEPs and Student Support Plans (SSPs) for students with special education needs.
  • Lead IEP/SSP meetings with members of the school-based team and families.
  • Work as part of the student support team, including classroom teachers, EAs, OG tutors, and school principals.
  • Continually assess student achievement using a variety of methods and modalities.
  • Differentiate learning and provide accommodations and modifications to support the success of all students.
  • Ensure accommodations within IEPs are being met through regular check-ins with the school-based team.
  • Liaise with parents and outside agencies to support students’ special education needs.
  • Participate in school-wide professional development.
  • Contribute to a culture of collegiality and collaboration as an engaged member of the team.
