Salary Range

$45.94 to $51.72 per hour

Strides Toronto Support Services (“Strides Toronto”) Strides Toronto is a multi-service agency supporting infants, children, youth and young adults from birth to age 29, and their families, primarily across east Toronto. We offer community-based, residential and treatment programs—including mental health counselling, autism services, early intervention, day treatment, education, outreach and community support—using a client-centered, evidence-informed approach. Since 2015, Strides Toronto has served as Toronto’s Lead Agency for Infant, Child and Youth Mental Health, partnering with 21 core service providers to provide system leadership, citywide planning, coordinated service delivery and program alignment. This is an existing vacancy for a part-time contract Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP). The SLP provides a range of high-quality clinical services to children and caregivers, as well as refer to and consult with other professionals with the purpose of helping children achieve their optimal communication potential. The SLP provides clinical supervision to Supportive Personnel (i.e., Communicative Disorders Assistants).

  • What you will do
  • Provide a range of high-quality clinical services to children from birth to school entry, and their caregivers, to support and promote the development of the children’s communication skills, in alignment with the organization’s and Preschool Speech and Language Program (PSL)’s policies and procedures, as well as CASLPO legislation.
  • Supervise the clinical work of support personnel who provide services to children and families to ensure that high quality services are being carried out in accordance with CASLPO regulations and PSL protocols.
  • Deliver PSL services within the local community to ensure easily accessible, high-quality services to our clients, to increase our presence and promote our services to potential clients in the communities we serve, and to build community capacity for promoting speech and language development and early identification of delays in communication skills.
  • Complete all job-related administrative duties in a timely manner to allow for efficient workflow and effective evaluation of the work carried out within the PSL team.
  • Liaise with PSL staff from other geographic services areas to participate in the development and promotion of PSL initiatives. To liaise with other Strides staff to integrate the PSL program within Strides and organization-wide initiatives.
  • Actively participate in implementing the organization’s policy on health and safety as part of an effective health and safety program to ensure a safe and productive workplace where staff are trained and protected from hazardous conditions.

The “must haves”

  • The following education, professional memberships and knowledge are a requirement for this role:
  • Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Registered and in good standing with College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO).
  • Awareness of the role of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) in the workplace and within the community being served by the position.
  • An understanding of anti-black racism, anti-oppressive/anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health.
  • Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts.

The ‘nice to haves’

While not required, preference will be given to candidates with the following

  • 2 years of experience working as a speech-language pathologist.
  • Previous experience working in a Preschool Speech and Language program.
  • Previous experience providing clinical services to children within the 0-school age entry range, low and/or high tech AAC systems, and/or with social communication differences.
  • Functional computer and client information system knowledge.
  • Fluency in another language(s), including sign language.
