Job description

Position Type: Casual

Hours of Work: Scheduled on an as-needed basis up to a maximum of 48 hours per pay period

Salary Range

$25.64 to $29.86 per hour

Strides Toronto Support Services (“Strides Toronto”) Strides Toronto is a multi-service agency supporting infants, children, youth and young adults from birth to age 29, and their families, primarily across east Toronto. We offer community-based, residential and treatment programs—including mental health counselling, autism services, early intervention, day treatment, education, outreach and community support—using a client-centered, evidence-informed approach. Since 2015, Strides Toronto has served as Toronto’s Lead Agency for Infant, Child and Youth Mental Health, partnering with 21 core service providers to provide system leadership, citywide planning, coordinated service delivery and program alignment. About the Role

This is an existing vacancy for three (3) casual Respite Worker positions that provides school break, after school, and Saturday respite, for youth and as well as a day program for adults with an autism spectrum disorder or a developmental disability. Family engagement is an essential partnership with a focus on the development of both social and life skills to enhance quality of life working towards independence by teaching, creating opportunities for socialization through individual and group activities.

  • What you will do
  • Provide direct supervision for the child or youth in the planned program (community, on site) to ensure their safety as well as their engagement in the skill development and treatment components of the program To provide support to clients with their mental health and wellbeing in each of the programs and support them in their engagement daily in the development of life and social skills.
  • Implementation of programing under the principles under Applied Behaviour Analysis; including the completion of data collection sheets (ABC, time sampling, etc.), team participation in the review of challenging behaviours and areas related to group skill development.
  • Review the client’s plan and programming goals set by the DSW and needs of the individual and is in collaboration with other team members, implement planned program and follow through on programming expectations based on DS program and its calendar.
  • Maintain, in cooperation with other team members, the physical facilities of the program sites in accordance with accepted norms of health and safety. To maintain a positive space in terms of health and safety standards.
  • Ensure that all relevant documentation is completed into TREAT in a timely manner as required. To carry out a variety of non-related client administrative duties.

The “must haves”

  • The following education, professional memberships and knowledge are a requirement for this role:
  • CYW, DSW or related diploma.
  • 1 year of directly related experience working with children and youth.
  • Knowledge of the principles of ABA; ASD, and dual diagnosis.
  • Knowledge of the mission, mandate, objectives, priorities, policies of Strides Toronto and the various departments.
  • Understanding and knowledge of various community opportunities.
  • Awareness of the role of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) in the workplace and within the community being served by the position.
  • An understanding of anti-black racism, anti-oppressive/anti-racism perspective in the context of the social determinants of health.
  • Ability to recognize and identify situations where incidents of imbalance of power and privilege may occur and can result in possible negative impacts.

The ‘nice to haves’

While not required, preference will be given to candidates with the following

  • Access to a vehicle is an asset.
  • Fluency in another language(s), including sign language.
