Community Specialist II

• The Community Specialist II (CS II) will be reporting to the assigned Program Supervisor.
• The CS II is a highly experienced direct support role, typically relating to more complex and specialized situations, behaviours, or environments.
• They work front-line and are pivotal to the creation of a safe, caring, and community-enriched life for the individuals and families who hire us.
• Thoughtful programming planning and implementation support participants to connect with their communities – establishing real relationships and creating meaningful days and lives.
• The conscientious CSII will act with integrity, be open to growth, live our purpose, cultivate teamwork, and put forth an extraordinary effort to empower people with disabilities and their families to grow, succeed, and belong.

• Provide direct care and purposeful support with individuals identified as exhibiting behaviours that may limit access to community in an engaging, fun, and safe environment 2.
• Implement person-centered and behaviour plans designed to support and assist participants 3.
• Facilitate inclusion for individuals with complex and/or specialized situations 4.
• Deliver and adapt programs and services in an engaging and meaningful manner that imparts growth, success, and belonging 5.
• Foster genuine relationships promoting dignity, personal interests and identities 6.
• Empower individuals to create meaningful days and achieve their goals 7.
• Communicate effectively with integrity to individuals, families, and co-workers 8.
• Assist, support, and encourage individuals to advocate on their own behalf and achieve their personal goals through various development activities 9.
• Maintain timely, accurate and professional documents in accordance with AdaptAbilities policies and procedures 10.
• Perform other job-related activities as required

Qualifications

• 1.
• Minimum education requirement of a High School Diploma and a minimum of 2-3 years of related experience; or graduation from an appropriate post-secondary program with a Certificate or Diploma.
• Programs include Disability Studies, Human Services, Social Work, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Sociology, or Education or Education Assistant 2.
• Hands-on experience working with individuals with complex behaviors which limit their inclusion in community and/or programs 3.
• Alignment with AdaptAbilities core purpose and core values 4.
• Clear Police Information Check and Intervention Record Check are required upon hire 5.
• Intermediate First Aid Certification CPR Level C and AED is required upon hire 6.
• Having a valid driver's permit and car to transport to work is a requirement 7.
• The candidate must be able to swim and be comfortable swimming with the participant 8.
• Patience, and strong strategies for boundaries are a requirement 9.
• Experience de-escalating behaviors and providing transitions are a requirement 10.
• The ideal candidate is consistent, creative, artistic, and energetic 11.
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Medication Administration Certification, Abuse Prevention and Response Protocol are an asset

Compensation $22.86 to $24.62/ hour depending on experience and education
