  • Location: Progress Campus; Athletic and Wellness Centre (may be required to travel to various locations to support competitions and team activities, as required) Overview The Olympic weightlifting coach works with a team of professional staff that support the student leadership and goals of the organization. The coach is responsible for ensuring each guest of the Athletic and Wellness Centre (AWC) has an exceptional experience by providing a high standard of service. The coach takes a holistic approach to providing services to members and clients. The coach supports program growth by promoting participation and enhancing member engagement in weightlifting programs. The coach has an interest in working in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment. This position requires the incumbent to work effectively and foster cooperative relationships with student leaders as part of a student-focused organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to the following: Coaching Provides professional services to members in person, by telephone and/or email Conducts ongoing assessments of program participants and records progress Supervises club training hours in the AWC fitness centre Promotes new club registrations and aims to maximize participation in the program Collaborates with the Personal Trainers and other AWC staff on work related projects Ensures cleanliness of the training area and reports any equipment not in working order Reinforces the AWC Member Expectation agreement Creates a positive relationship and working environment with all members and staff Aids in ensuring all CCSAI facilities reflect a professional image Must accompany select athletes to at least one competition per semester, subject to Fitness Services Coordinator approval and operational requirements

Operational Requirements Must be available to coach on Sundays, 10am-12pm, and Wednesday and Friday, 6pm-8pm Must be available for competition days and team travel outside of the regular training schedule; will be discussed and approved each semester with the Fitness Services Coordinator, and will be agreed upon in advance Attend AWC monthly staff meetings and other required department meetings and training

Qualifications

Education Degree or diploma in an exercise/ health science discipline such as fitness, kinesiology or similar Certification An NCCP certification for the sport of Weightlifting is required. A fully certified “Competition Introduction” Coach or higher is required. Experience Minimum one year experience coaching with a competitive weightlifting club Experience working in a high-profile athletic environment is an asset Experience implementing a variety of physical assessment protocols, including body composition and various musculoskeletal assessments, is considered an asset Experience as a competitive weightlifting athlete is considered an asset Specialized Knowledge Proficiency in the use of computers, email, office and related applications is a must Using social media marketing is considered an asset CPR must be current General knowledge of the sport laws surrounding weightlifting and understanding current trends in the sport is mandatory
