The stó

Lō youth mentor acts as a traditional mentor, using traditional teachings and communication techniques to provide outreach support to at-Risk and vulnerable youth connected to stó:Lō communities regarding issues like homelessness, violence, and substance abuse. They strive to provide services including crisis intervention, life skills education, and assisting youth in accessing community resources while promoting indigenous and stó:Lō cultural values.

Candidates must possess a two-Year diploma in human services or equivalent experience, along with a strong understanding of indigenous culture, history, family systems, and relevant legislation like the bc child, family and community services act. Required abilities include excellent oral communication emphasizing indigenous techniques, experience working with at-Risk youth, and maintaining cultural competence.
