Job description

JobTitle: Early Childhood Educator Substitute

Reports To: Program Supervisor; Early Childhood Education Director

Overview: Create and run educational programs that fuel children's intellectual, physical, social and emotional growth

Qualifications

  • ECE or ECE Assistant certificate
  • Fluent in the English language (spoken & written)
  • Valid Criminal Record Check (covered by JCC at time of hire)
  • Valid First Aid Certificate with CPR
  • Three References
  • Experience in creating learning through play environments with emergent curriculum
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Working knowledge of Provincial Child Care Licensing Regulations
  • Bountiful energy, enthusiasm and leaderships skills

Responsibilities, as listed but not limited to

  • Program Planning
  • Using the British Columbia Early Learning Framework and Sheva- The Jewish Early Learning Framework for the JCCA of North America as guides, educators care and educate the children in their group.
  • Abide by the ECEBC Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
  • Adhere to Provincial Child Care Licensing Regulations
  • Work as part of the team
  • Provide for the safety and well-being of children
  • With Children
  • Respond to children in positive, culturally-sensitive and respectful ways, always leaving their integrity intact
  • Take an active role in all areas of the program
  • Provide guidance which encourages learning and developing self-concepts
  • Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
  • Include children in problem solving with their peers
  • Model positive communication skills
  • Assist the children in expressing themselves by listening and responding with questions or comments that extend conversations
  • Respect and address children’s emotional and social needs

  • Health, Safety and Nutrition
  • Ensure, in cooperation with team members, that the environment is clean, healthy and safe for children at all times
  • Follow all current regulations, Program policies and procedures relating to health, safety and nutrition
  • Ensure the daily program promotes sound personal hygienic practices for staff and children and follows universal health care precautions and guidelines
  • Ensure children are dressed appropriately for all activities
  • Conduct head-counts at various points through-out the day
  • Ensure there is a staff person at the front and at the back of the group of children, when leaving the classroom and returning (to the gym, library etc.)
  • Understand and follows legal requirements for child abuse reporting
  • Centre Responsibilities
  • Assure that all activities within the program rooms and the JCC as a whole are always undertaken with consideration and respect for JCC property and member well-being
  • Inform the Centre of issues/concerns via the ECE Director
  • General Responsibilities
  • Promote the vision of inclusive, family-centred care which is respectful of diversity and culture
  • Promote and model a professional attitude in daily work by taking an active role in professional development offered by the JCC
  • Recognize and respect all confidential matters of the Centre and its affiliates

Wage Enhancement will be added for Educators holding ECE license.
