<p><b>K4/K5 Teacher Opportunity </b></p><p><b>Join Our Team at Wagalus Elementary School!</b></p><p> Wagalus Elementary School is looking for a caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated K4/K5 Teacher to join our elementary team. This position also involves contributing to school-wide priorities, collaborating with colleagues, and participating in community-based learning initiatives that reflect our Kwakiutl values and local context.</p><p><b>Duties and Responsibilities</b></p><p>The successful candidate will:</p><p>· Create a safe, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.</p><p>· Plan and deliver engaging learning experiences that support the developmental needs of K4 and K5 students.</p><p> · Foster early literacy and numeracy skills through meaningful, play-based, and hands-on learning opportunities.</p><p> · Implement school-wide programs, Readwell for Literacy, Saxon for Math.</p><p> · Build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.</p><p> · Use effective classroom management strategies that promote student well-being and success.</p><p> · Incorporate local culture, language and community knowledge into classroom learning.</p><p> · Collaborate with staff to support school-wide goals and initiatives.</p><p> · Participate in community-based learning opportunities that reflect Kwakiutl values and local context.</p><p> · Support the holistic growth of each child- academically, socially, emotionally, and culturally.</p><p> · Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes curiosity, independence, and a love of learning.</p><p> · Incorporate formative assessment strategies to monitor and support student growth.</p><p> · Plan for and support diverse learners, including those with Individual Education Plans (IEPs).</p><p> · Use technology effectively to enhance learning and communication. </p><p>· Participate in extracurricular and community activities that promote student engagement and well-being.</p><p><b>Required Skills and Abilities</b></p><ul> <li> Deep understanding of early literacy, numeracy, and foundational skills in the BC Curriculum. </li> <li> Demonstrated ability to plan for and teach diverse learners using differentiated strategies. </li> <li> Knowledge and sensitivity regarding BC First Nations and Indigenous education initiatives. </li> <li> Strong interpersonal, communication, and classroom-management skills. </li> <li> Experience with research-driven instructional and assessment practices for primary grades. </li> <li> Commitment to collaboration and inclusive practices. </li> <li> Cultural responsiveness and willingness to learn about and incorporate Kwakiutl culture and values. </li> <li> Interest in supporting land-based learning initiatives. </li> <li> Willingness to integrate technology and outdoor learning into daily instruction.</li></ul><p><b> Required Education, Experience, Certifications, and Licences</b></p><ul> <li> Valid BC Teaching Certificate issued by the Teacher Regulation Branch. </li> <li> Degree in Education with training or experience in Primary (Kindergarten – Grade 3). </li> <li> Early Childhood Education/ or experience </li> <li> Evidence of exemplary teaching experience or successful practicums in early primary grades. </li> <li> Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector). </li> <li> Experience working in Indigenous education settings preferred. </li> <li> Understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture, history, and ways of knowing.</li></ul><p><strong> Other Requirements</strong></p><ul> <li> All employees must comply with the Personnel Policies outlined in the Kwakiutl Nation Policies and Procedures manual. </li> <li> Adherence to the Code of Ethics and Governing Values of the Kwakiutl Nation is required. </li> </ul><p><strong>We Offer</strong></p><ul> <li> Competitive salary and benefits package</li></ul><p><strong> Application Requirements</strong></p><p> · Resume</p><p>· Copy of Degree</p><p>· Copy of Teacher Certificate</p><p>· Copy of TQS</p><p>· Satisfactory Criminal Record Check</p><p>· Names and contact information for three references (telephone and email address)</p><p>· Reports on Teaching</p><p> · Transcripts </p><p><strong>The Application Process</strong></p><p>Please email your application package, including cover letter, resume, CRC, three recent references, etc., to Maryann Gladstone at<b> principal@wagalus.ca Deadline for applications is July 7<sup>th</sup>, 2026 at 4 pm.</b></p><p> <br></br></p>
