Job Summary The Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) supports the delivery of high-quality care and learning experiences for children. Working under the guidance of the Site Supervisor, the ECEA helps create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment that fosters each child’s intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development. This role actively engages children in play-based and educational activities, promotes positive interactions, and contributes to a nurturing atmosphere.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Knowledge of early childhood development and childcare best practices Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues Organizational and time management skills to maintain a safe, structured, and engaging environment Understanding of group dynamics and facilitation techniques for collaborative activities Ability to work effectively within a team, offering support and guidance when needed Empathy and patience in responding to the needs of children and families Creativity and adaptability to design engaging activities and respond to changing situations Cultural sensitivity and inclusiveness to support diverse families and create a welcoming environment Problem-solving and critical thinking skills for handling challenges calmly and effectively
Key Responsibilities Program Planning & Implementation Plan and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate activities that support children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth Create daily schedules that balance indoor/outdoor, active/quiet, and individual/group experiences Conduct assessments and develop individualized and group curriculum based on children’s needs Child Supervision & Care Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of all children, always maintaining required licensing ratios Attend to children’s physical needs, including diapering, toileting, meals, and rest Nurture children to promote positive development and inclusion Health & Safety Ensure a healthy and safe environment by observing and removing hazards Administer first aid and medication as required Report all incidents of child abuse in accordance with OneSky procedures and government legislation Family & Community Engagement Maintain open and positive communication with parents, encouraging involvement in program planning Collaborate with families and other service providers to support children’s development Promote inclusivity and cultural sensitivity within the program Program Evaluation & Compliance Maintain accurate records and reports on attendance, health, and developmental milestones Support program quality and compliance with licensing regulations, accreditation standards, and OneSky policies Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and organizational events Other Maintain confidentiality and uphold OneSky’s mission, vision, and values Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and problem-solving within the team Perform other related duties as required to ensure program integrity and success
Qualifications
Completion of the following three Early Childhood Education courses (or equivalent): Child Development Child Guidance Child Health, Safety, and Nutrition A combination of related training and relevant experience may also be considered.
