Position Title

Part-Time Academic (SLWK 5005/5006: MSW Social Work Field Work Class) - Winter/Summer 2027 Posting Number PTAP3337P Department/Unit Social Work Location Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Job Summary & Key Responsibilities The part-time academic will teach SLWK 5005/5006, “Social Work Field Work Class”. The course will be offered on campus in the Winter and Summer terms, from January-June 2027. Seminars will be held Mondays from 17:35-19:25. Course description: The foundation field education course provides students with opportunities to integrate learning and practice through a supervised social work experience related to the specified learning goals. The course includes supervised social work practice in the field for a total of 450 hours and a concurrent seminar. The placement site is determined through consultation and agreement among the student, the Field Education Coordinator or designate and the agency. The part-time academic position is responsible for guiding a series of seminars, liaising with student field placement agencies for a series of meetings, dealing with any issues that arise within the field placement, overseeing the completion of an academic presentation, and conferring on final grades. The part-time academic should expect to be engaged in course preparations preceding course delivery. Qualifications/Requirements of Position Educational background with extensive experience in social work (or related fields) is required. Solid knowledge of a variety of social work skills and the ability to impart these skills to students. A Master of Social Work degree (or higher) and previous teaching experience is preferred. Salary Range/Pay Rate Per CUPE Collective Agreement
