What is Nisa Homes?
Working from a holistic, culturally, and religiously responsive approach, Nisa Homes provides residents with a safe transitional shelter for healing. Our staff provide assistance with the goal of helping residents attain long-term independence and self-sufficiency
The Child & Youth Worker will be responsible for providing child-minding services to the residents at Nisa Homes. Under the supervision of the Childcare Lead, the Child & Youth Worker will play an integral role in supporting the residents on their journey to regain independence and fulfill the steps required to move out.
What You’ll Do
- Provide supervision and ensure the safety and well-being of all children and youth.
- Maintain a structured, consistent, and trauma-informed environment.
- Facilitate structured skill-building and recreational activities with a focus on:
- Emotional regulation skills
- Coping strategies
- communication and interpersonal skills
- Other child-centered goals
- Provide child-minding in an effort to support mothers as they work towards meeting their goals.
- Provide one-on-one support and mentorship.
- Complete accurate and timely daily documentation, activity logs, incident reports, and other administrative tasks.
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to support individualized family goals (reinforcing routines, supporting parenting strategies, contributing to overall stability, etc.)
- Maintain professional communication with families and external stakeholders when appropriate.
- Support the implementation of house routines, rules, and programming.
- Participate in community outreach events and workshops when available.

What we’re looking for
- Relevant degree such as Child and Youth Worker, Early Childhood Educator or related field especially with regard to homelessness and vulnerable women and will have a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience. Other combinations of education, experience, and training may be considered.
- Able to adhere to highest standards of ethical care and confidentiality policies;
- Additional languages are an asset.
- Strong understanding of the needs and issues of different social groups, including women experiencing or at risk of homelessness, women fleeing abuse, and newcomers.
