Part-Time Academic (ASSC 1700.03: Communications for Nursing and Kinesiology) - Fall 2026 Posting Number PTAP3301P Department/Unit Multidisciplinary Centre Location Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Job Summary & Key Responsibilities A part-time academic is required to teach ASSC 1700.03 Communications for Nursing and Kinesiology in the Fall term (September to December 2026). The lecture is scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays 10:35-11:25. This is a large course that is restricted to students registered in the Nursing program. It provides an introduction to academic writing in the context of health and social care and focuses on professional and academic writing, critical thinking, and communication, particularly within nursing contexts. The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures, and the evaluation of student work. The part-time academic will also be responsible for training and supervising teaching assistants, leading tutorials in the case of TA absences, and standardizing TA assessment of student work. The part-time academic should also be available for two hours per week for consultation with students. The position reports to the Associate Dean, Academic of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Qualifications/Requirements of Position Applicants should have a PhD, although candidates who are ABD may also be considered, in a humanities or social sciences discipline. Applicants must have a proven record of outstanding teaching in large courses at the first-year university level in humanities or social sciences. Experience teaching arts and/ or social science to students from other faculties is an asset. Applicants should specify for which sections they are applying, or if they are applying for both sections. All Applications must include a CV, and the names and contact information of two references. A cover letter is optional. Evidence of teaching effectiveness (including the results of teaching evaluations for university-level classes, especially for online courses) will also be welcome. All offers of employment as a part-time academic are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the course and approval by the University. Salary Range/Pay Rate As per CUPE Collective Agreement
