Position Summary

BCIT’s Mechanical Engineering department is seeking a part-time contract, Faculty, Mechanical Building Systems who is an enthusiastic, team-oriented professional with practical knowledge of mechanical building systems. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to teaching and interacting with students, an ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and an interest in developing and delivering quality curriculum. The successful candidate will develop and instruct courses in the Mechanical Systems Associate Certificate program. BCIT Flexible Learning courses are offered in the evenings in three, twelve-week terms per academic year: September to December, January to March, and April to July.

Duties & Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Instruct, motivate, and assist adult learners. Identify, prepare and organize course materials and learning resources for online course delivery. Facilitate and maintain a positive learning environment. Provide academic assistance. Develop, modify, and/or improve, course outlines, curricula, evaluation procedures, and instruments. Record and submit student performance records including attendance and grades.

Qualifications

Diploma of Technology or Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Three years of relevant work experience in mechanical systems design for buildings. Must be able to work 100% remotely with a good internet connection. Excellent English-language communication (written and verbal), as well as interpersonal and people-management skills. Previous teaching experience is considered an asset, but not a requirement. Ability to motivate adult learners to achieve academic success.

Salary Range

$86.25 - $129.39 per contact hour, inclusive of vacation and holiday pay.

Additional Salary Information

Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.

Requirements

Recognized one-year certificate in Office or Business Administration or related field.

Two or more years of related work experience, preferably in high-volume customer service.

Strong communication skills in English.

Knowledge of post-secondary operations and policies (preferred).

Attention to detail and accuracy in data processing.

Proficiency in MS Word and MS Outlook.

Typing speed of at least 40 wpm and 100 keystrokes per minute
