Facilitate the daily operation of Parent-Child programs and supervise children up to 12 years of age. Plan and implement activities for Summer Day Camps and support literacy and community-based drop-in programs.
Requires 1-2 years of experience working with children and the ability to communicate effectively with parents. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents aged 15-30 and pass a vulnerable sector police check.

The Child Care worker assists individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from, or have been referred to, The Salvation Army and/or attend programs. This position provides support to Parent-Child programs and other programs as provided by Kitchener Community Church and Family Care Centre.
Submit as required a Police Record Check (vulnerable sector check) that is acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion. This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria: aged 15 to 30 years at the beginning of the employment period; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; a valid Social Insurance Number; be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible An ongoing condition of employment is the ability to maintain immigration status to legally remain and work in Canada which is supported by valid immigration documents. Experience and Knowledge Requirements: 1 – 2 years experience working with children. Comfortable in speaking with parents and caregivers daily. Skills and Capabilities: Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement. Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills. Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility. Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment. Participate in orientation training. Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s Health & Safety policies and procedures. Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check. Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
The target hiring range for this position is $18.50 to $23.13 with a maximum of $27.76. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
