Job description

Duties: & responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to

  • Will facilitate 2-3 nursing staffing orientation groups per month, including 4 - 5 practicum days throughout the month depending on number of new hires and locations they will be serving. (i.e. NU, BC, ON, AB, MB, YK, NWT)
  • Assist in updating e-learning modules for all Northern contracts, marking orientation assignments, and participating in the enhancement of the orientation/ practicum program for Northern Nurses
  • Complete a maximum of four Northern Nursing assignments providing direct patient care in the communities (2 - 4 week assignments)
  • Support clinical initiatives specific to Remote and
  • Northern nursing service delivery, including but not limited to: acute care, primary, continuing & long-term care, and home care.
  • Complete program development, provide education and guidance that will support field staff with their clinical care and creating positive client/patient outcomes including holistic, culturally sensitive assessments, ongoing reassessments, and management of all scopes of nursing practice.

Qualifications: External

Candidates must have

  • Current registration with a Canadian nursing regulatory body, and a willingness to obtain further registrations in additional provinces as needed.
  • A minimum five (5) years of nursing experience with a minimum of three years of experience working as a Community Health Nurse in Northern Communities.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in education, program development and delivery in healthcare.
  • Current BLS or ACLS; must be willing to obtain other certifications as needed (i.e. TNCC, PALS, ITLS) depending on province.
  • Ability to travel to remote and northern communities throughout Canada is required (maximum of four assignments per year).
  • Solid knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of Remote and Northern community nursing.
  • Confidence and sound judgment in dealing with a variety of health care providers, including nurses, paramedics, and staff from other disciplines.

$87,000 - $92,000
