Child and Youth Worker - Live-in Treatment

402 Bloomington Road, Aurora, ON or 968 Queensville Side Road, this position will require travel within York Region.

Hours of Work: Forty (40) hours per week, Daytime hours, shifts between 7am – 11pm

A look at your duties and responsibilities

• Client Service Responsibilities
• Assists in promoting and supporting the Mission, Vision, and Values statements, ensuring adherence to operational and service policies and procedures while maintaining ethical conduct.
• Demonstrates a strong understanding of ethical behaviour and professional conduct, including contributing to ensuring ethical standards are upheld and participation in quality improvement standards.
• Develops positive rapport with clients in the program to create psychological safety and trust through relationship-building activities and observation of the client’s physical and emotional well-being.
• Ensures client safety by following Crisis Intervention guidelines for crisis prevention and de-escalation, following agency policies and procedures.
• Participates in the assessment of new clients, review of admission documents, preliminary briefings and support in assisting in the preparations from admission within a multidisciplinary team.
• Collaborates with colleagues to provide daily activities, routines, and behavioural support that is both developmentally and clinically appropriate for children in the program based on client needs.
• Maintains the cleanliness, organization, and upkeep of the living space, specifically client rooms, bathrooms, grounds and common spaces.
• Intervenes physically in crisis situations to reduce harm to the client, self or others in accordance with the principles and methods of the agency approved crisis intervention model
• Facilitates therapeutic and treatment group meetings, including regular house meetings to obtain client feedback and to address concerns following agency-approved models.
• Attends and participates in team meetings and discussions on client cases, treatment plans and process with a multidisciplinary team.
• Provides client transportation to healthcare appointments and home visits as required.
• Prepares written documentation as required by internal policies and procedures and external partner requirements such as completing checklists for specific areas including but not limited to; meal planning and preparation, food ordering, laundry and cleaning.
• Actively reports serious occurrences, including daily reporting and medication administration.
• Works closely with the Manager to co-develop, implement and track treatment interventions, including reporting intervention outcomes.

• Administrative Responsibilities
• Actively participates in licensing and accreditation processes, including annual Ministry licensing review and renewal.
• Maintains a system of documentation and reporting that is consistent with quality assurance standards and procedures, licensing, accreditation and best practices.
• Ensures client files are maintained in accordance with quality assurance standards and procedures, licensing, accreditation and best practices.
• Supports the quality assurance program, evaluation systems and research activities as needed.
• Works with Human Resources to ensure memberships, licenses, background checks and certifications are up to date via submission of required documents on ADP.
• Participates in regular supervision with the Manager to engage in ongoing professional development.

• Attends and participates in required training and meetings.
• May be required to drive clients and supplies in the agency vehicle.
• Other duties as assigned.

What we are looking for

• Completion of a post-secondary education in Child and Youth Care, Social Work or related field.
• First Nation, Inuit or Metis (FNIM Elder, Knowledge Keeper, Healer, Medicine Person, Cultural Person with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a milieu setting.
• Experience utilizing a variety of interventions and skilled in milieu counselling, assessment and group work.
• Achieves and maintains certification in agency approved Crisis Intervention methodology.
• Knowledge of child and youth mental health legislation and regulations, including knowledge of mental health barriers, behaviours and supports required to effectively support children and youth in a milieu setting.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including editing skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to liaison and build positive relationships with agency internal services, clients and external partners.
• Ability to demonstrate sound decision-making in an intensive environment.
• Exhibits strong observation and attention to detail skills related to client mental status, crisis prevention and in-moment client needs.
• Employs emotional intelligence to manage and co-regulate self and client during intensive situations.
• Competent in trauma-informed practice, child development, and child and youth care relational practice.
• Demonstrates knowledge of youth transition to adult living (semi-independent or independent).
• Demonstrate versatility in the ability to work independently and collaboratively to support agency and program goals.
• Competence in modelling professionalism and maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
• Excellent organizational, solution-based problem-solving and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work under pressure and in crisis situations.
• Available to work flexible hours within a twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) days a week operation.
• Functional technological skills (e.g., Office 365, MS Office, SharePoint, software applications).
• Awareness and appreciation for the dynamics of equity issues (diversity, equity and inclusion), especially as it relates to gender, ethnicity, race, and economic status.
• Identification with the strategic mission, vision and values of the organization including inclusion, collaboration, people centred, knowledgeable and courageous.
• Driver’s license and clear driver’s abstract, including proof of automobile insurance and letter of experience from the individual’s insurance company.
• Must possess a satisfactory Broad Record Check.
