This role supports indigenous patients and families throughout their kidney care journey, facilitating access to cultural practices, elders, and traditional healers while collaborating with the care team to ensure culturally safe and trauma-Informed care. Responsibilities also include educating staff on indigenous cultural practices and contributing to policy development from an indigenous health perspective.
A high school diploma is required, along with demonstrated community and culture experience, and lived experience of indigeneity with an understanding of barriers faced by indigenous populations in specific territories. Candidates must possess a deep understanding of indigenous cultures, histories, worldviews, and protocols, along with strong skills in patient navigation and advocacy within complex healthcare systems.
