Overview
Assist professional staff in implementing programs with students. Supervise students in the classroom, on school grounds, and on school-day field trips. Provide support for social-emotional learning and peer-to-peer connections; refer to counsellors and child and youth care workers as appropriate. Assist with overnight school field trips when required. Assist with the food program. Transport students on occasion when required. Assist with noon-hour supervision. Prepare materials for students as directed by classroom teachers or learning support staff. Provide instructional and/or functional curriculum support as directed. Support students using visual tools and/or augmentative communication devices. Provide personal care (e.g., toileting, feeding, specific medical procedures) under supervision of professional staff. Assist in providing for students’ physical health and safety where directed. Participate as a member of the student instructional support team as required. Contribute feedback/information toward development of IEPs and/or Support Plans as requested. Participate in professional development and training related to the position. Provide additional services as required (e.g., medical care and non-violent crisis prevention management) under supervision of professional staff. Advise students of school rules and assist in diffusion of potentially dangerous behavior. Assist individual students when help is solicited. Perform other job-related duties
