Overview
Provide counselling support and behaviour interventions aligned with the RTI (Response to Intervention) framework. Support teachers, school teams, and parents in developing and strengthening social and emotional skills of children and youth. Create and support a safe, caring, and healthy school environment where students feel a sense of belonging. Plan short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition and the BC Curriculum. Use proactive classroom management practices that maintain student dignity. Use assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity. Support Tier 1 and Tier 2 classroom supports and scenarios requiring more individual plans. Develop and implement individual/group programs (e.g., social skills, self-esteem, anger management, bullying, anxiety, peer-pressure). Develop and support district protocols including safety, crisis, prevention & intervention, emergency plans, risk assessments, and threat assessment. Apply knowledge of Wraparound, TRIBES, Restorative Justice, Circle Talks, and Social Responsibility Performance Standards. Collaborate with colleagues on School Improvement Plans and the District's Framework for Enhancing Student Learning. Work with classroom teachers and school-based teams, including co-teaching and classroom support in addition to individual/group counselling. Provide direct and indirect services to support students in inclusive learning environments. Collaborate with students, educators, and families to foster inclusive, supportive learning environments. Plan, implement, and assess instruction based on diverse classroom needs. Support literacy and numeracy instruction, including early reading intervention and language proficiency assessment. Conduct and apply assessment practices (classroom observation, curriculum-based and norm-referenced assessments) and use data to inform instruction and IEP development.
