The Teacher Assistant supports teachers by working with individual students or small groups, particularly those with special needs. Responsibilities include assisting with physical mobility, personal hygiene, behavior management, and reinforcing learning concepts.
The Eskasoni School Board is accepting applications for four (4) Teacher Assistant positions.
Salary Range: $35,656 to $40,128
The TA will play a vital role in the classroom working to support teachers working with individual or small groups of students with special needs.
Assist students with physical & mobility challenges as specified in their program plan; Assist students with routines by lifting and positioning, exercising, transferring from or to transportation; Assist students with integration into the classroom and school setting; Help students individually or in small groups with assignments and reinforce learning and retention concepts under the supervision of the classroom teacher; Help motivate students and encourage student participation; Monitor and report student progress to classroom teacher; Accompany and supervise students to daily activities; Assist with personal care such as, toileting and personal hygiene; Assist and promote student emotional growth, wellbeing and independance; Assist with program support as directed & monitored by the teacher; Assist with safety and behaviour management under the direction of the program planning team; Encourage students to respect the school's code of conduct.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent Teacher Assistant or Early Childhood Education training program certificate or an equivalent program (ie: CCA) an asset Experience working with children and youth and managing students with exceptional needs Fluency in English and Mi’kmaq Ability to support students with technology and academics Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to perform physical requirements of the position and provide personal care as required Possess basic computer skills Completion of WHMIS, OHS and First Aid or willingness to obtain upon hire.

In accordance with the Eskasoni Teachers’ Union Local 80510 Collective Agreement bargaining unit members will be given preference.
