The instructor is responsible for delivering the 'Introduction to Leadership Theory in Adult Education' course online, including lecture preparation and student consultation. Key duties include facilitating learner engagement, developing digital instructional resources, and evaluating assignments using Brightspace.
A relevant graduate degree (MEd in Adult Education or equivalent) is required, with a PhD or EdD preferred. Candidates should demonstrate subject matter expertise in adult education and experience teaching in online or hybrid environments within the last five years.
ADED 2P97 Title of Course: Introduction to Leadership Theory in Adult Education Description of Course: Major theories, approaches, models and themes related to the study of organizational leadership. Department & Program: Department of Educational Studies, Adult Education Duration of Appointment: September 1, 2026 - December 31, 2026 Location: Online Compensation: Effective September 1, 2025 - $36.03 per nominal hour Effective September 1, 2026 - $37.11 per nominal hour The above rates do not include vacation pay. Vacation pay shall be in accordance with Article 16.02. Nominal Hours of Appointment: 195 hours Duties: The duties and nominal hours for Education Instructors are established by the employer. The nominal workload is normally made up of scheduled contact time with students as well as non-contact time. This includes but is not limited to preparation of lectures, class instruction, student consultation, marking and grading, and course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty. Under the supervision of the Adult Education Director and Program Committee, the role is responsible for instructional duties, including a high level of academic direction, insight, and feedback to learners enrolled in the course as well as instructional preparation and support duties that include student consultation, preparation, grading, virtual office hours and other course administration. Facilitate the learning experience in an exemplary manner that adheres to current adult education principles and practices, demonstrate a high level of instructor presence, stimulate discussion, and foster learner engagement to support the development of an academic learning community. Develop engaging instructional resources (video, screencast, or podcast) that provide insight and feedback to learners on a weekly basis. Assess and evaluate course assignments while providing meaningful and timely feedback to learners according to program policies and standards. Use Brightspace as the primary instructional tool for online courses. Utilize the course curriculum as authorized by the Adult Education Director and Program Committee, while also providing appropriate academic oversight and input (via a formal report) regarding the ongoing relevance and effectiveness of course resources, assignments, and assessment tools and strategies on an annual basis. Liaise with Adult Education Director and Program Committee, instructors, online facilitators and staff as required. Work under the requirements outlined in the Adult Education Program Handbook, Brock University Undergraduate Calendar, and Faculty Handbook with academic oversight from the Adult Education Director and Program Committee. Adhere to the requirements of mandatory training including AODA, Health and Safety Awareness Training, FIPPA, Academic Integrity and other professional development events as recommended by the Adult Education unit, the Faculty of Education and Brock University.
You must have demonstrated subject matter knowledge and expertise related to the relevant adult education literature and the specific course content listed below within your resume and cover letter. Demonstrated successful experience facilitating or teaching adults in an online or hybrid delivery mode, working in an LMS environment, within the last five years preferred. Relevant professional working experience as an educator in the field of adult education, within the last five years preferred. A relevant graduate degree from a recognized university required (MEd in Adult Education or equivalent), PhD or EdD preferred with an active research agenda. Skill in using Microsoft Office 365, or similar technology resources, to support the teaching and learning process.
