The instructor will teach a course on learners with exceptionalities, covering legislation, policies, and the Individual Education Plan process. They will collaborate with the course lead to ensure consistency across different sections for Teacher Candidates.
Requires a Master's degree in Education, a Bachelor of Education, and Ontario teaching certification with experience working with children with disabilities. A doctoral degree and Special Education Specialist AQ are considered assets.
This course considers the learner with exceptionalities in the educational context. Diverse exceptionalities are examined and related programs and placements. Legislation, policies, and procedures related to special education are examined, including the Individual Education Plan and the identification and placement process. The course content will vary in its focus on curriculum expectations, learning, and teaching at the different grade levels, depending on Teacher Candidates’ program division (Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate). Successful candidate will work with the course lead and/or team in order to provide consistency across sections. Qualifications – Required Academic Degree: Master’s degree in Education; Bachelor of Education and/or K – 10 Teaching Certification; Ontario Teaching experience (Grades K-6 experience for PJ sections, Grades 4-10 for JI sections) working with children with exceptionalities and/or disabilities Qualifications – Required Discipline: Education Qualifications – Required Areas of Specialization: Special Education Qualifications – Required Professional Designation: Qualifications – Other Doctoral degree in Education; post-secondary teaching experience in Special Education; Leadership/scholarship in the area of Special Education; Work as a Special Education Resource Teacher in Ontario schools; Special Education Specialist AQ Salary: $5,106.20 Application Deadline: June 25, 2026 Submit with Application: Required for All Applicants
