This course extends and deepens the understanding of practice and theory related to English language and literacy development including unit and long-range planning, assessment, instruction and implementation of the Ontario Curriculum across the primary/junior level (grades K to 6). The course will focus on the consolidation of requisite knowledge and skills to establish a repertoire of research and evidence-based instructional strategies to support students’ literacy development. The course will consider a broad definition of literacy to examine the literacy practices of our changing world to include how equity, diversity, inclusion, and indigenization practices support and foster a critical orientation to teaching literacy.
Successful candidate will work with the course lead and/or team to provide consistency across sections.
– Required Academic Degree: Master’s degree in Education; Bachelor of Education and/or K – 10 Teaching Certification; Grades K–6 Ontario teaching experience in Language and Literacies.
