About Africa Centre Council for Advancement of African Canadians in Alberta (CAAC), operating as Africa Centre, is the largest pan African non-profit organization in western Canada, serving as a community hub that provides programs and services from a place of cultural awareness and competency to the families in our diverse community. We acknowledge the diversity of our cultural background as a source of the strength that brings capacity and competencies to shape a thriving community in Alberta. We have a strong African indigenous cultural foundation incorporated across our programs and services.

The key responsibilities of this 8 week position include activity planning and daily program activities: Plan activities that enhance resilience, relationship-building, and leadership skills – 20%. Participate in the delivery of all programs and complete documentation/reporting as required – 60%. Supervise all activities to ensure participant's safety, including during snacks and meals – 15%. Help to maintain housekeeping standards by ensuring all program facilities are left clean before the commencement of the program and after each activity and each meal – 5%.

  • Eligibility Candidates must be Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
  • Candidate must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
  • International students are not eligible.
  • Candidates must be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
  • Security Clearance Check and Child & Youth Intervention Check are mandatory requirements.
  • Experience The successful candidate will have previous experience with children and youth ages 6-17.
  • Enthusiasm and ability to work with youth from a variety of backgrounds in a group setting.
  • Knowledge of children’s activities and community resources in the area of academics, art and culture, health and nutrition, service and leadership, and physical activity and recreation.
  • Communicates clearly in English, both orally and in writing (to support academic tutoring).
  • Knowledge of French and/or other African languages is an asset.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and be results-oriented.
  • Capable of performing independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Available to work shifts ranging from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Friday daily during the employment period.
