• <p><b>Job Posting #4030234</b></p><p><b> </b></p><p><b>INDIGENOUS STUDENT ENGAGEMENT FACILITATOR</b><b> </b></p><p><b>1.0 FTE Continuing full-time Indigenous Student Engagement Facilitator</b><br></br></p><p>The Nicola-Similkameen School District is looking for an energetic and passionate Indigenous Student Engagement Facilitator to provide services to students living in Merritt and Princeton and the surrounding communities within the School District.</p><p>Reporting to the District Principal for Indigenous Education, the Student Engagement Facilitator is responsible for engaging with referred students and families, as well as community agencies and service providers, in order to <b>support student attendance and successful attachment to their schools and classrooms</b>.
• This successful applicant will be required to work flexible hours, which may include evenings, to meet the needs of students and the program.</p><p><b>Responsibilities of the Indigenous Student Engagement Facilitator include:</b></p><p>· Providing school and community-based services through a cultural lens, using cultural resources and practices in order to create safe and caring supports for students and families and reflecting the First Peoples Principles of Learning. <b></b></p><p>· Providing assistance and support for the implementation of programs aimed at the educational, social, emotional and physical growth and wellness of students as requested by School and district-based teams. </p><p>· Working in close cooperation with the District Social Emotional Learning Team, ISA’s and other support personnel. </p><p>· Works in active collaboration with Education Coordinators to plan and foster meaningful engagement. </p><p>· Providing feedback in areas identified as specific student goals to the appropriate teachers, counsellors, families, and bands when appropriate.</p><p>· Facilitating referrals to community support services and agencies as determined by school-based teams and/or families.</p><p>· Supervising students when working with them both in and out of school settings.</p><p>· Participating in home visits as requested by School and District Based Teams and following safety protocols.</p><p>· Supporting student attendance and engagement and acting as a student advocate.</p><p>· Participating in school-based team and other consultative meetings as requested.</p><p>· Promoting awareness and acting as a positive role model and advocate for students and families in homes and community settings as required.</p><p>· Will participate in professional development with prior approval by the District Principal for Indigenous Education.</p><p>· Hours of work are flexible; however, scheduling will be determined based on the needs of the assigned caseload and at the direction of the District Principal for Indigenous Education.
• Occasional evening work may be required to effectively support students.</p><p>· Other duties as assigned. </p><p> </p><p><b><u>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:</u></b></p><p>· Bachelor’s Degree in a related field: youth work, psychology, social sciences, indigenous studies.</p><p>· Previous work/volunteer experience involving Indigenous children or youth.</p><p>· Interests and skills that would support the engagement and interests of students who are struggling with attendance and/or school engagement; ability and willingness to participate in land-based learning and activities.</p><p>· Personal understanding and knowledge of cultural resources and practices; interest and willingness to explore and further personal knowledge and skills.</p><p>· A willingness to learn and explore issues around diversity, inclusion, and equity, and the ability to incorporate those understandings into advocacy for students. </p><p>· Knowledge of First Nations, Metis and Inuit history, culture, values, knowledge of the historical and contemporary issues facing Aboriginal families and communities, as well as First Peoples Principles of Learning and Truth and Reconciliation. </p><p>· Valid BC Driver’s license and vehicle.</p><p>· Valid Criminal Record Check.</p><p>Nicola Similkameen School District is working to ensure an inclusive, diverse and representative workforce.
