Recreational Activities Coordinator: 35Hr/Week for 13 Weeks
Start date: May 25, 2026
End date: August 21, 2026
This position may require some evening and weekend hours
Flexible hours required depending on scheduled programming.
Position Summary
The Recreational Activities Coordinator is responsible for assisting in planning, coordinating, and leading a diverse range of recreational, wellness, and social activities for adults with intellectual disabilities in a day program setting under the direction of the Summit staff and the Manager. This role ensures that all activities are inclusive, person-centered, and aligned with participants’ goals, interests, and abilities. The coordinator works collaboratively with Manager, program staff and external partners to promote engagement, independence, and community inclusion through effective marketing and community outreach efforts.

Duties: and Responsibilities:
- 1. Assist in Program Development & Implementation
- Design and lead daily and weekly recreational programs including arts & crafts, music, movement, games, outings, camp and themed events.
- Assisting in facilitating programs that reflect participant interests and celebrate diversity.
- Modify and adapt activities to ensure accessibility and meaningful participation for all individuals.
- Assist in planning logistics of scheduled events.
- 2. Participant Engagement & Support
- Build positive relationships with participants, encouraging active involvement and personal growth.
- Collaborate with support staff to ensure participants receive necessary accommodations and supports during programs and outings.
- Promote a fun, respectful, safe and encouraging atmosphere that values every participant’s contribution.
- 3. Collaboration & Team Leadership
- Work closely with Summit staff, and the manager to align recreational programming.
- Support the Summit program as needed.
- Provide guidance to Activity Leaders or volunteers assisting with programming.
- Serve as the point person for recreation-related inquiries and program improvements.
- 1. Community & Wellness Integration
- Organize on-site and off-site recreational opportunities that promote social connection, physical health, and community inclusion.
- Build relationships with local organizations, venues, and service providers to expand program offerings.
- Incorporate wellness components into programming, including movement, mindfulness, and outdoor activities.
- 2. Administrative & Reporting Responsibilities
- Maintain records of activities, participation, and program outcomes.
- Assist in the development and monitoring of recreational program budgets, materials, and resources.
- Amilia (Smart Rec) reconciliation, registration, invoices, payment, and membership intake
- 3. Health & Safety
- Ensure all activities comply with health and safety standards and agency protocols.
- Support staff in managing participant behavior and emergencies during recreational activities.
- Maintain safe and organized program spaces and equipment.
- Complete incident reports, risk assessments, and behavioral support documentation as required.
- Cleaning and maintaining the Summit building
- Follow food safety protocol, assist and ensure participants are following food safety.

- 1. Training & Professional Development
- Participate in ongoing training related to recreational therapy, inclusive programming, and working with people with intellectual disabilities.
- Stay informed about trends and best practices in inclusive recreation and community engagement
Eligibility
This position is funded in part by Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ). CSJ positions require that applicants MUST meet the following criteria:
(a) Up to 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
(b) A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act [S.C. 2001, c. 27]*; and
(c) Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
