Job description
- As a member of the health care team, the Education Clinician, teaches, plans, develops, implements and evaluates education and development programs to enhance clinical proficiency, quality improvement and team skills.
- Facilitates and expedites continuous learning and professional development through coaching and/or mentoring of staff and clients.
- Facilitates appropriate coordination of resources to meet identified education and development needs.
- The Education Clinician is assigned to support the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at McMaster Children’s Hospital.
- The Education Clinician is a part of a corporate education resource team also supporting central education programs and must be able to work at all sites at HHS.

- Baccalaureate degree in nursing, master’s preferred 2.
- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario 3.
- Pediatric Critical Care Certificate or equivalent 4.
- Minimum 3 years of recent (within the last 2 years) experience in pediatric critical care 5.
- Minimum 1 year recent experience in adult education within the last 2 years 6.
- Demonstrated experience as a preceptor of staff and/or students 7.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the mentoring and development of staff 8.
- Demonstrated experience in evaluation of learning activities specific to individual, team and organizational performance 9.
- Evidence of ability to develop, conduct and evaluate educational programs to learners from a variety of health care disciplines 10.
- Demonstrated competencies in team building, organizational skills, leadership and presenting/managing change in a positive manner 11.
- Recent (in the past 2 yrs.) demonstrated ability and experience as an educator in developing, implementing, coordinating, evaluating education programs; and managing/sustaining compliance for multiple large projects and initiatives 12.
- Demonstrated ability to deal efficiently and effectively with conflicting demands in a fast paced, complex environment 13.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and problem solving skills 14.
- Evidence of continuous commitment to ongoing education 15.
- Formal Simulation training or certification from a recognized organization (e.g.
- Simulation Canada) 16.
- Demonstrated experience in development of simulation scenarios, debriefing techniques, and the use of simulation technology (e.g. patient simulators) 17.
- Current BLS certification 18.
- Current PALS certification, Instructor preferred 19.
- Pediatric CRRT knowledge and expertise 20.
- Canadian Nurses’ Association (CNA) certification pediatric critical care preferred
