Provide a full range of services to students who are blind or visually impaired as part of the district’s Inclusive Education Team. Support and promote inclusion for students in the most enabling environment within their school community. Provide in-service consultation and collaborative planning with teachers, administrators, community partners, and parents/guardians. Facilitate district in-service and development for paraprofessionals, teachers, administrators, etc., regarding vision and vision loss. Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based/promising practices and current issues/trends in blindness and visual impairment. Maintain knowledge of Ministry of Education and provincial resource programs/services (PRCVI) and CNIB; maintain liaison with CNIP and PRCVI. Partner with and represent the district with provincial level resources (Ministries of Health, Child & Family Development, and Education) and provincial outreach/community partners. Share program information with outside agencies and groups. Interpret the nature and degree of a learner’s vision loss and its educational implications for access. Assess the level of student support required and provide assessment support (including curriculum-based, criterion-referenced or norm-referenced assessments, observation, and baseline data collection). Collaborate with classroom teacher, learning support teacher, and school-based team to apply UDL and design/implement curricular revisions, differentiated strategies/materials, and/or environmental supports. Participate in interdisciplinary problem-solving teams, school-based teams, integrated case-management, and other meetings. Support educational teams during transitions for students with diverse abilities or disabilities. Plan for and organize support for students with blindness or visual impairment, including diverse abilities/disabilities. Encourage and support innovations in evidence-based/promising inclusive education practices (e.g., student independence/self-direction, positive behaviour support). Coordinate/writing/co-writing Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Coordinate vision assessments and manage equipment needs (including repair). Teach braille or coordinate with a braille specialist. Teach orientation & mobility (O&M) or collaborate with an O&M specialist. Identify and order materials and equipment through PRCVI and other sources. Model/demonstrate and support school teams in inclusive practices and use of specific materials/equipment. Teach students strategies for use in the classroom and other settings
