Overview
Determine education priorities by completing learning needs assessments of individuals or groups. Develop and revise educational programs through research, consultation, education development, monitoring, and updating. Deliver certification courses (e.g., Chemotherapy Care, Radiation Therapy Nursing, IV therapy, Central Venous Catheter care) including preparing written materials, facilitating workshops, and overseeing clinical practice sessions. Organize and deliver orientation sessions for new nursing employees within a network of Nurse Educators. Support Clinical Nurse Leaders to orient, preceptor, mentor, and support direct care nurses and other staff. Collaborate with practice leaders to provide leadership, consultation, and performance support to clinical staff, employed student nurses, and students. Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care in support of educational activities. Plan and schedule educational activities and maintain attendance tracking and reporting statistics. Assist provincial leaders in evaluation and/or development of new education programs by administering needs assessments and developing instructional materials. Mentor staff to adhere to best practice guidelines and new initiatives as a knowledge broker for clinical advances. Facilitate new product evaluation and integration into clinical practice as a liaison between company representatives, centre leadership, and nursing staff. Act as an education resource person for the Community Oncology Network (CON) nursing staff. Deliver education sessions to individuals or groups using varied teaching methods (lectures, presentations, mentoring, coaching, facilitating group work, role modeling). Participate in quality improvement and risk management activities (evaluate effects of changes, generate recommendations, conduct safety audits, implement required changes). Promote research-informed practice by collaborating with BC Cancer provincial resources and facilitating ongoing research development. Participate on committees as assigned and report information back to unit/program staff
