Overview
Work under the general direction of a teacher and supervision of the principal/vice-principal or designate. Build meaningful connections with students and foster open communication and emotional well-being. Collaborate with the school-based team on assessment, design, implementation, and monitoring of student interventions. Assist with development, implementation, and evaluation of behaviour programs. Provide academic support. Plan, implement, and monitor behaviour support programs including observation, record keeping, and follow-up. Respond to emergent issues by assessing situations, identifying appropriate responses, and recommending resources and assistance. Intervene in crisis situations and support development/implementation of supportive strategies. Maintain regular communication with students in collaboration with the school-based team. Act as a resource and team member to school-based teams and committees (e.g., staff meetings, student reviews, IEP reviews, case management updates, critical incident teams, risk assessment, intake, probation conferences). Assist with planning and acquisition of life and social skills. Monitor and reinforce behaviour for students with moderate to intense behaviour issues. Support social-emotional learning, executive functioning, positive behaviour, and self-regulation. Collect data and maintain accurate records for individual and group programs. Prepare written reports (daily/weekly journals) and prepare classroom materials with teachers. Provide input to IEP and student progress reports and perform record keeping including learning and behaviour data collection. Provide general classroom support in inclusive settings. Provide social guidance in non-structured environments. Provide personal care assistance (toileting, feeding, diapering, dressing) and physical assistance (wheelchair maneuvering, positioning, lifting, transferring, motor skill development exercises). Implement health care plans in collaboration with the school-based team (e.g., administering medication, monitoring seizure activity, diabetes management, and other complex medical needs). Implement educational support programs (e.g., speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy) and assist students using specialized equipment. Assist with administering minor first aid (e.g., applying bandages, dispensing ice packs). Ensure safe and orderly storage of special equipment and supplies. Participate in staff meetings as requested
