About the role

The teacher is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality instruction aligned with the Alberta Education curriculum while fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment. They must also assess student progress, manage the classroom effectively, and collaborate with colleagues and families to support student growth.

The Elementary Teacher (Kindergarten to Grade 7) is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality instruction in accordance with the Alberta Education curriculum while fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that supports the academic, social, emotional, and personal growth of every student.

Reporting to the Principal, the successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in instructional planning, classroom management, student assessment, and collaboration with colleagues and families.

The teacher will create meaningful learning experiences that inspire curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and a lifelong love of learning through student-centred and inquiry-based instructional practices.

As a valued member of the school community, the teacher is expected to uphold the mission, vision, and values of Gobind Sarvar School Edmonton, contribute to a positive and collaborative school culture, and actively support the implementation of the Alberta Education curriculum and the school's International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy.

The successful candidate will be committed to fostering globally minded, compassionate, and responsible learners who are equipped for success in an ever-changing world.

Key Responsibilities Curriculum & Instruction Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons aligned with Alberta Education curriculum outcomes.

Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs, abilities, and interests of students.

Utilize a variety of evidence-based teaching strategies to maximize student engagement and achievement.

Foster inquiry-based, project-based, and experiential learning opportunities.

Integrate educational technology to enhance student learning.

Promote critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Create meaningful learning experiences that encourage student curiosity and lifelong learning.

Student Assessment & Learning Assess, evaluate, and monitor student learning using a variety of formative and summative assessment methods.

Maintain accurate records of student achievement, attendance, and progress.

Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents.

Develop intervention strategies for students requiring additional academic support.

Prepare report cards and participate in student-led conferences and parent-teacher interviews.

Classroom Management Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.

Promote student responsibility, independence, and positive behaviour.

Implement classroom management strategies consistent with school expectations.

Maintain a safe learning environment that supports student well-being Collaboration & Communication Collaborate with school administration, colleagues, educational assistants, and support staff.

Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), staff meetings, and school initiatives.

Build positive relationships with students, parents, guardians, and the broader school community.

Communicate regularly with families regarding student learning, attendance, behaviour, and academic progress.

Professional Responsibilities Maintain confidentiality of student and school information.

Participate in professional development and continuous learning opportunities.

Support school events, field trips, extracurricular activities, and community initiatives as required.

Perform additional duties assigned by the Principal that are consistent with the position Qualifications & Requirements Education Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent recognized by Alberta Education.

Licences & Certifications Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate (required).

Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.

Standard First Aid & CPR Certification is considered an asset.

Experience Previous teaching experience in Kindergarten to Grade 7 is preferred.

Experience implementing Alberta Education curriculum.

Experience with inquiry-based, project-based, and student-centred learning is considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of Alberta Education curriculum and assessment practices.

Excellent classroom management skills.

Strong instructional planning and organizational abilities.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.

Commitment to inclusive education and differentiated instruction.

Strong technology skills and the ability to integrate digital learning tools.

Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Commitment to ongoing professional growth and continuous improvement.

Working Conditions Full-time classroom teaching position.

Occasional evening or weekend commitments for school events, parent meetings, and professional development.

Regular supervision of students during instructional and non-instructional times.

Ability to participate in educational field trips and extracurricular activities.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Education and a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate. Previous experience in Kindergarten to Grade 7 and familiarity with inquiry-based learning practices are preferred.
